chaotic happiness v.2.0

Ask me anything   playing catch up with microblogging and moving chaotic happiness to tumblr. writing is the way i document my life. good times. bad times. anytime. every time. : )

29. new york. enjoying life one day at a time because it is too short to always follow rules. : )

twitter.com/kawena13:

    so i have a u-haul cargo van….

and movers in JP and Astoria to help me load and unload my stuff. this is actually happening: i am moving to nyc. in response to this realization, i currently snack on pepperoni, pita chips, and hummus. i think i ate too much pepperoni.

six days until i move. with that said, i’m really fortunate to have my room in the apartment for the rest of the summer. there is NO way i could sort through and pack up 10 years’ worth of stuff in the time that remains. i have decided on the things i will take with me in this first trip: bed, desk, office chair, books, clothes, music, and tv. i’ll be too busy to need anything else, and it will jumpstart the process of sorting, donating, and trashing that needs to be done.

overwhelmed describes my current state. of course, i’m the champion procrastinator and have left cleaning and packing to the last few days (not to mention a party or two in between), so i really shouldn’t be surprised. and, as i just, literally, told a friend, “everything will work itself out. just take one step at a time.”  so, all i can do is take life one step at a time, and deal with it as it comes. i am excited to do laundry, clean and organize my room, and pack up stuff for the first move. that will happen tomorrow.

for today, i’m going to enjoy the rest of the afternoon, and revel in the fact that i am moving to nyc next week! : )

    a new adventure!

i’ve been away from tumblr for a few months, and it’s been sad. work, grad school, internship, and college ultimate responsibilities filled my plate for the first half of 2011.

now that grad school is done (hooray!) and my internship is at its end (happy and sad), it’s time to dive back into tumblr. my friend and colleague, alicia, suggested that i start a blog to document my upcoming adventure. since i already use tumblr, it seems like the best fit. so, alicia, stay tuned for the updates!

in short - i am moving to the big apple (long island city to be exact) next month. i will be helping two friends open a bar/restaurant, and will manage the back-of-house stuff. i’m pumped: the space is awesome, the view of the city is breathtaking, and there’s so much to do! our goal is to open sometime this summer, and i plan to use this space to document the new adventure.

before i get to new york, there’s lots to do: secure an apartment in nyc, close up shop in boston, sift through and pack up 10 years of stuff, and bid adieu to friends and colleagues. it’s going to be a crazy summer! : )

… but then that’s the beauty of this place, there’s no old women prodding you for taking too long on that last email, no screaming kids spilling their frappuccinos all over your Mac Book.

i would love to have an office like this. awesome.

    20 eye-opening cultural norms in japan →

I’m trying to finish the unfinished books on my goodreads list, and am currently reading Japanese Society by Chie Nakane.

It’s a short, but dense read that explains…yes, you guessed it, Japanese society. With each page, I begin to appreciate my Japanese heritage more and more. One of these days, I will visit Japan. : )

I discovered this today on Twitter (thanks @GuyKawasaki), and it made me smile.

"The Dutch will tolerate anything, even intolerance…[w]hat exactly does Dutch tolerance look like in an everyday way? Three things come to mind: drugs, prostitution, and cycling. In the Netherlands, all three activities are legal."

    - Eric Weiner in “Chapter 1: Netherlands - Happiness is a Number” in The Geography of Bliss.

Funny thought on happiness as we end another week in 2010. Have a wonderful weekend! : )
