Not so long ago, the average American man in his 20s had achieved most of the milestones of adulthood: a high-school diploma, financial independence, marriage and children. Today, most men in their 20s hang out in a novel sort of limbo, a hybrid state of semi-hormonal adolescence and responsible self-reliance. This “pre-adulthood” has much to recommend it, especially for the college-educated. One of my best friends from middle-through-high school started a blog to connect Star Trek with real life. And, I have found her thoughts to be insightful, thought-provoking and a wonderful reminder to take time to think about life.
I enjoy all of her posts despite not ever watching an episode of Star Trek, but this one is my favorite thus far.

I’m trying to finish the unfinished books on my goodreads list, and am currently reading Japanese Society by Chie Nakane.
It’s a short, but dense read that explains…yes, you guessed it, Japanese society. With each page, I begin to appreciate my Japanese heritage more and more. One of these days, I will visit Japan. : )
