and movers in JP and Astoria to help me load and unload my stuff. this is actually happening: i am moving to nyc. in response to this realization, i currently snack on pepperoni, pita chips, and hummus. i think i ate too much pepperoni.
six days until i move. with that said, i’m really fortunate to have my room in the apartment for the rest of the summer. there is NO way i could sort through and pack up 10 years’ worth of stuff in the time that remains. i have decided on the things i will take with me in this first trip: bed, desk, office chair, books, clothes, music, and tv. i’ll be too busy to need anything else, and it will jumpstart the process of sorting, donating, and trashing that needs to be done.
overwhelmed describes my current state. of course, i’m the champion procrastinator and have left cleaning and packing to the last few days (not to mention a party or two in between), so i really shouldn’t be surprised. and, as i just, literally, told a friend, “everything will work itself out. just take one step at a time.” so, all i can do is take life one step at a time, and deal with it as it comes. i am excited to do laundry, clean and organize my room, and pack up stuff for the first move. that will happen tomorrow.
for today, i’m going to enjoy the rest of the afternoon, and revel in the fact that i am moving to nyc next week! : )

Interior Design of the Day: The interior of the Bryant Park branch of Manhattan-based coffee shop D’Espresso was designed by Nema Workshop’s Anurag Nema to resemble a sideways library.
The “books” are actually tiles printed with sepia-toned photos of bookshelves at a local travel bookstore that ring the room, including the floor, walls and ceiling. In addition to painting unusual surfaces with intriguing patterns — whoa, you’re standing on books! — it gives an Alice in Wonderland-esque sense that the room has been suddenly upended.

the recent weather in boston has made the “curled up with a book and a warm cup of coffee/tea/something warm” idea very attractive. all week, i’ve considered calling in sick and finding an awesome coffee shop to do this. now, if this coffee shop were actually in boston, there’s a very good chance you’d find me there.
fall is spectacular. : )

Why are so many people in their 20s taking so long to grow up?

Eric Weiner in “Chapter 10: America - Happiness is Home” in The Geography of Bliss: One Grump’s Search for the Happiest Places in the World.
Weiner is commenting on “the problem…with many of us Americans and our perpetual pursuit of happiness.” He mentions that America is an optimistic nation, and because of this, we are transient - always searching for something else that will make us happy.
I find this generalization to be true in my case - I am optimistic, I think that there is something, some place, better than where I am now, and have one foot out the door in life and in love.
A few years ago, I was fully committed to Boston. My disposition changed and I was in a rut and didn’t know the “right” thing to do. The three weeks abroad observing different countries’ cultures has tapped into this urge to travel. I’ve suppressed it for years because I didn’t have a purpose - a job, an internship - but the more I think about it (I know, the irony of thinking too much!), the more I know that this is what I need to do for me and my pursuit of happiness.
Thank you, Eric Weiner, for an entertaining and educational read. : )
this post could not have appeared at a better time….and it’s tuesday.
How Hangovers Happen (And How To Avoid Them)
We’ve explained before how alcohol affects the brain during a long night of drinking. As most people know though, the affects of heavy alcohol consumption doesn’t end when you finally make it to bed. If you’re not careful the next morning can often be a miserable experience thanks to the unpleasant symptoms of a hangover. Here’s a look at what causes hangovers, and some tips on how to avoid them.
